Pronunciation Tips

Plural Noun Endings: /s/, /z/, /6z/

When an ā€œsā€ is added to a noun to make it plural, the final ā€œsā€ can be pronounced in one of the three ways:

  • /s/ follows an unvoiced consonant.
e.g. workshops, documents, links
  • /z/ follows a vowel sound or a voiced consonant at the end of the noun.
e.g. plans, opportunities, guidelines, situations
  • /6z/ follows words ending with the sounds /s/, /z/, /]/, / t] /, /d./.
e.g. purses, prizes, wishes, matches, bridges

Read and underline the plural noun words. Write the words on the correct blanks. Then, listen and repeat.
